Surgical hair transplant is quite successful in case of men, but is seemingly not the best option for women. However, this is not the complete truth and the reason for it is the fact that most of the women suffering from hair loss requiring hair transplant are not cases of androgenetic alopecia. But in general sensibility, hair loss is primarily related to alopecia caused due to DHT; thereby, making it necessary for women to know the actual cause of their hair loss before choosing the hair transplant process.
Women, if suffering from hair loss due to hormonal imbalance leading to rise in level of DHT are not the best candidate either for FUE or FUT. However, maximum women suffer from hair loss due to other reasons and thus make a good candidate for either process of surgical hair transplant. Some of the known reasons for hair loss other than Adrogenetic alopecia are as follows.
Traction Alopecia
Alopecia Marginalis
Irregularity in hormonal level before and after childbirth
Just before and after menopause
Post major surgery
Hormonal treatments
Polycystic ovaries
Thyroid problems
Side effects of medication
Emotional shock
Anemia
Emotional stress
Sudden weight loss
Steps Involved In The Process Of Women Hair Transplant
The steps of hair transplant either in case with FUE or FUT process is more or less same. However, the marked difference is in the process undertaken to extract or harvest the grafts from the donor area. Some of the major steps involved with women hair transplant process is as follows.
Step 1
Consultation
This step in case of men hair transplant could be of ‘choosing the donor area’, but in case of women hair transplant it is better to include this step before considering any further. This involves with determining whether the woman candidate is suitable for the process or not. Such assessment will include considering the following.
Cause of the hair loss
Chances of finding stable donor grafts
Determining suitable volume of hair in the donor area
Step 2
Choice of donor area and graft harvesting
Once the candidature of the woman for hair transplant surgery is assessed and deemed fit, the donor area is selected and marked. Then, depending upon the process agreed upon, FUE or FUT, the hair transplant expert will either extract individual grafts or a strip of scalp from the donor area.
Step 3
Hair Graft Transplant
The strip taken out from the donor area is further processed in this step. Hair grafts are separated from the strip and is prepared to be grafted in the balding area of the women. As a general rule, the grafts transplanted in front part of the head contain on an average 2-4 hairs and the number increases as the process moves away from the hairline.
Step 4
Added Precaution
The surgeon should be an expert of the process to tackle women hair transplant since contrary to the process of men hair transplant, in case of women the grafts are implanted between or around existing hair follicles. And in case your doctor commits a mistake, the healthy or remaining hair too could be damaged.
Step 5
Seating required covering the bald region
the process if hair transplant in women is not about covering the bald region, it is more about adding volume to the existing hair volume. Therefore, the process require transfer of less grafts but due to added precaution that is required in case of hair transplant for women there could be a need for additional seating.
