Hair transplant is a day care procedure that can be performed in an OPD (Outpatient Department) facility. A qualified hair transplant surgeon, along with trained OT technicians, can carry out the procedure. Before starting the process, it is important to ensure that the OT facilities and equipment are up to date and in working condition, following the guidelines of the national medical council on OPD OT requirements and safety norms.
The Hair transplant process begins with the client coming to the clinic for a consultation to understand their hair loss condition and align their expectations regarding hair restoration or replacement. After the consultation, the client proceeds for a blood test and ECG, which are prerequisites for the hair transplant procedure. The reports are assessed by the operating surgeon, who gives consent to proceed further.
On the day of the procedure, the client arrives at the clinic after having breakfast, wearing an open chest shirt that can be easily removed post-procedure. Donor capacity is thoroughly checked, and if the client has gray hair, a root touch-up color may be done. The entire scalp hair is then trimmed to zero length using a trimmer. The hair transplant surgeon marks the recipient zone, and a test dose of local anesthesia is given in both arms to check sensitivity.
After a waiting time of 15 to 20 minutes, the client changes into an OT gown and enters the OT. Blood pressure and sugar tests are conducted, and a pulse oximeter is attached to the client's finger. During the extraction phase, the client lies down on their chest on the OT bed, exposing the donor site to the surgeon. Local anesthesia is administered to the donor site, making the scalp numb. Extraction is performed using motorized punches, and the extracted grafts are separated, segregated, and preserved for implantation.
After the extraction phase, the client takes a break and can have meals or snacks. After a 15 to 20-minute break, the surgeon starts the implantation process, which can be done through slit method, implanter method, nicking method, or the latest Sapphire pin FUE method. The implantation process takes 3-4 hours, depending on the number of grafts to be implanted. Once the implantation is complete, the donor site is covered with surgipad, and the client can leave for their residence, either by cab or their own car.
The hair transplant procedure can be tedious for the surgeon but generally remains comfortable for the client, with minor bearable discomfort due to lying down on the OT bed for an extended period. At MAX Hair Clinics, the procedure is performed with maximum comfort in mind, and clients can relax in in-clinic client recliner lounges with the company of their family members or companions.
It's important to note that the specific details and processes of a Hair transplant procedure may vary depending on the clinic, surgeon, and individual case. It's advisable to consult with a qualified hair transplant surgeon to understand the specific procedure, its risks and benefits, and post-operative care instructions.
