Cheap Hair Transplant Myths in India

Blog1Image

India is a popular hair transplant destination due to its cut-rate hair restoration treatments. You only need to spend a couple of days visiting the hair transplant center you choose. These days, we see bandages on the scalp too often in major cities in India.

However, Indian clinics in major cities have a notoriously poor safety record when it comes to cosmetic surgery, including hair transplants. A 2021 survey by the Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons found that 100% of complications following cosmetic surgery occurred in single-unit or individual clinics with no clinic establishment or operation theatre licence; cases were performed by operation theatre technicians, and there was hardly 10% involvement of a qualified surgeon.

While there are some good hair transplantation clinic chains in India, there are also many unlicensed surgeons offering black-market hair transplants at very cheap costs, starting from 25 to 30K. These unethical individuals prey on people with low confidence and low budgets, but ultimately, people who have a hair transplant operation on the black market can end up paying far more. Globally, a staggering 96.4% of ISHRS members reported that up to a quarter of the hair transplant procedures they performed last year were due to previous black-market hair transplant failures and complications. Since most of the single-unit clinics cannot afford to hire a qualified Oral Maxillo facial surgeon, Dermatologist, or Plastic surgeon, they mostly hire BDS or BHMS Doctors without any surgical skills and get the procedures done by operation theater technicians who don’t have basic knowledge of OT hygiene and safety norms. Since a hair transplant is once in a lifetime procedure, we should not take a risk and get it done from renowned clinic chains at a better cost.
